Thermal Design & Analysis

The building envelope and its associated components, provide a filter between the exterior and interior environments, allowing helpful portions such as daylight to pass through while dramatically reducing the effects of the undesirable components, such as Solar Heat Gain and UV. Energy conservation is pushing the integration of the Building Envelope with the building HVAC, Lighting and other control systems. We provide thermal data via simulations or test specimens as required for the project. We will work with the architect and associated consultants to develop a custom designed system that will meet the energy requirements of any project.

  • U-factor: U-factor measures how well a product prevents heat from escaping.
  • SHGC: Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how well a product blocks heat caused by sunlight.
  • VT: Visible Transmittance (VT) measures how much light passes through a product.

Several states and many local jurisdictions require or reference these and other values as a method of certification or code compliance with their State-developed codes. Some jurisdictions actually require that exterior glazing system(s) have a thermal certification prior to the issuance of a building permit. Our Design and Development team can assist in expediting the certification process.
