Sheet Metal Bending
Sheet metal bending sounds simple enough–an operator carefully feeds the metal into the press brake, which uses a large amount of force to bend it into shape. However, there are some complexities that fabricators have to keep in mind when it comes to custom metal bending.
For one thing, the actual angle of the bend needs to be just as precise as any other dimension. Certain metals can only undergo so much stress, too–if bent too much, they could break, something that needs to be considered with each material. Also, bending can result in ‘die marks’, a cosmetic imperfection that doesn’t affect the quality of the finished part but can affect the aesthetic appeal. These can be removed through processing or covered up with a surface finish.
